I start this column this week with a quote from one of our founding fathers. I hope we can understand the warning in his words. “How prone all human institutions have been to decay; how subject the best-formed and most wisely organized governments have been to lose their check and totally dissolve; how difficult it has been for mankind, in all ages and countries, to preserve their dearest rights and privileges, impelled as it were by an irresistible fate of despotism”- James Monroe, 1788.
Some may find the title of this column unsettling, perhaps, even extreme. To call someone’s words lies implies a challenge and demands a reckoning. So that there is no confusion, let the author of this column state clearly that he will challenge the liberal Democrat candidates Libby Mitchell and Eliot Cutler on their falsehoods, and, with my children’s futures in the balance, I dare not fear the reckoning. The warnings of James Monroe cannot, in this present time, be ignored.
One characteristic of despotism is the total disregard of the God-given rights and freedoms of their fellow countrymen by the propagation of lies with callous disdain for the public impact and contempt for the citizen’s ability to discover them. This has been exemplified through the Democrats dynamic duo of Libby Mitchell and Eliot Cutler. When fishermen were gathering together to protest their maltreatment by the sitting Democrat President and also the Libby Mitchell led State Legislation, the Democrat’s candidates only response was to rebuke the participants for not voicing their frustrations in a proper tone. In doing so, these Liberals have revealed a troubling disposition towards governance. It seems the Senate President feels that if her subjects, my words, do not show the proper respect to her lauded offices then she will not acknowledge their suffering. Thankfully, our forefathers did not show King George the “proper respect” due his monarchy and told him where he could go. This started a war that, ultimately, gave you and I the opportunity to “disrespect” all arrogant and self-infatuated political leaders who trample our Constitution. Should we stop to think what John and Samuel Adams would have to say to our President? It wouldn’t be respectful and, I guarantee, they wouldn’t care who was offended by it. Liberty was of the utmost importance to them, not the feelings of the pretentious.
Senator Mitchell, however, seems more concerned with exploiting the anger of hard-working fishermen as an opportunity to attack Paul Lepage rather than offering these men any solutions. While preening her self-effected sense of propriety at the debate in Bangor, she lectured Paul Lepage on the proper tone to use towards the exalted office of the Presidency. This she says while she and her Party trample the Constitution. We now know that Libby Mitchell enthusiastically endorsed calling President Bush an international Terrorist. This is as extreme and disrespectful as it gets….but the lies continue….
Libby Mitchell claims that Paul Lepage’s name is on the deed of Ann Lepage’s home. The Senator says the Mayor is lying. Now we find out that the “deed” that supposedly has Mayor Lepage’s signature is actually a construction loan. Hmmmm…I’m a contractor and I’ve had my name on construction loans but I don’t own the house. The homeowners do. So Libby Mitchell is lying again, unless, she is so detached from reality that she doesn’t know the difference between a deed and a loan. On second thought, maybe this could explain the billions misplaced, mismanaged, or misappropriated under her watch. Remember, this Senate President needs someone to show her where she has overspent… oh, if just had enough time….but the lies go on….
Supposedly, Senator Mitchell has quoted Paul Lepage as saying he has no association with the Tea Party movement. That’s interesting, because the “quote” is really Mr. Lepage clarifying that he is not the leader of the Tea Party. This would be laughable if our children’s futures were not at stake. If someone asks me if I’m the foreman of a jobsite and I say no, that doesn’t mean I’m not working on the jobsite.
The sinister end of these heinous lies is the total mockery they make of the voters in Maine. Thankfully people, like the Tea Party movement, know better. Libby Mitchell cannot manipulate the Tea Party into endorsing her. If that movement were to abandon Lepage at the behest of Mitchell and Cutler, this would send a message that their convictions were more about them then the Constitution. I know that the Tea Party movement does not want to go down in history as having endorsed the very thing they stood against; despots ignoring the people and trampling the Constitution.
Pelosi’s Puppy (back by popular demand)
Amidst pomp and circumstance, Barack Obama emerges to sign a monumental trampling of the Constitution. Beside him are Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid smugly preening their arrogance. What we, the American public, did not see is the multiplicity of leashes streaming from behind the House Speaker to the large pack of lap dogs in tow.
One such cringing canine was our very own, Mike Michaud. It’s interesting to note that Mr. Michaud has campaigned in Maine as a man of the people; but, with a majority of Mainers against the health care bill, he still voted for it. The backlash against the Representative has been enormous and loud, but the Congressman has been too busy licking Pelosi’s hand to hear the furor of his constituents.
Mainers sent Mike Michaud to Congress because they felt he would be an independent voice. They felt he would represent the majority; instead, he has represented special interests. His voting record has shown that he has voted over 90% of the time with Nancy Pelosi. That is hardly independent.
Both Democrats and Republicans agree that cap and trade, which has failed miserably in Europe, will be a devastation to our economy. But Mike Michaud sat gazing adoringly at Nancy Pelosi and voted to pass the “business killer.”
Every time Nancy Pelosi has needed to pass a spending hike, she simply has to scratch Mike Michaud’s back; he wags his tail, and votes to her bidding. Such spine! Such strength of character! Are you as proud as I am to have such a stalwart representation of the independent spirit so prevalent in the state of Maine? (Yes, that gagging sound is me.)
It’s time to bring Pelosi’s puppy back home to his kennel to stay. From all the mess he’s been making in Washington, he could definitely use a rework on his House training. Fellow Conservatives, let’s replace Pelosi’s “wittle” puppy with a strong Conservative. That Conservative is Jason Levesque. Jason is a conservative big dog and Michaud should stay on the porch.
The Maine Conservative Voice fully and enthusiastically endorses Mr. Levesque for Congress. This columnist has had the pleasure on several occasions to hear this man speak. It is no wonder that Mike Michaud has avoided any debate with Mr. Levesque. If Pelosi’s puppy had to face a Conservative’s growl he might just “piddle” on the floor right there in front of everybody.
Like the rest of Maine’s residents, Jason Levesque has challenged Mike Michaud to face him on the issues. Instead, Mr. Michaud has chosen to run whimpering with his tail between his legs to hide behind his master Pelosi’s skirts. We cannot allow this kind of cowardice to be a representation of this great state any longer, certainly not the second district and certainly not the Red County.
Jason Levesque carved his business out of nothing to a viable employer here in the state of Maine. That in it’s self is an impressive accomplishment. He has done this while raising three children with his wife, Tracy, in the city of Auburn.
Jason also served in the Army first infantry division, where he earned an expert infantry designation. He was promoted to infantry team leader. After his tour, he served six years in the Army reserves. He also served at Fort Leonard Woods as a drill sergeant. Maybe…just maybe, he could House train Pelosi’s puppy, but I’m not sure we have that much time.
Anyone who comes in contact with Jason Levesque cannot help but be impressed with his demeanor and intensity. Which may be one of the reasons Michaud is avoiding him. We need someone in Washington to make a stand for common sense. Now you tell me, fellow conservatives, who would you trust? A puppy or a former Army drill sergeant?
THE VALUE ADDED VOTER
Many things have been written about the voters of Maine. It has been pontificated ad nauseum that Mainers vote for or against individuals, rather than standing on the issues, with no thought of the consequences. Some have said that the residents of Maine seem to be waiting for any little miscue to find an offense and, thereby, making themselves vulnerable to the lies and manipulations of the Democrat Party. I disagree. I do not concur.
I believe the electorate of Maine has turned the page on that chapter in their history. Mainers understand that their beloved State stands at the crumbling edge on the abyssal cavern of insolvency. These dire circumstances have been brought on by the mismanagement of Libby Mitchell and the rest of Maine’s Democrat leadership and, now, exacerbated by the unfunded programs and mandates funneled into this State by the Oval Office. The Democrat Party in the State of Maine endorses this job killing agenda of the President’s. It has become increasingly clear to the residents here that a focused approach to voting is of an absolute imperative come November 2nd.
The Maine voter will not be easily dissuaded, distracted or disillusioned this November, as may have been the pattern in elections past. The Democrat’s “suppress the vote” tactic will not be able to blunt the charge of Conservatism in this voting cycle. Mainers realize a strong leader is needed to change Maine’s course not a polished politician. They have seen the national experiment with a leader who has been fluent with words but has taken the Nation in an alarming direction we never would have fathomed.
I am confident and expectant that my fellow residents will stand unified and turn the tide of socialism in Maine. We know that the choices we make have staggering and far reaching implications for our children and their children. We know the value of a focused, selfless vote, a vote that looks to the future.
For instance, if I, a Conservative, were to vote for a Representative who shared my values but decided, because I disliked an individual’s persona, to vote for a liberal for my Senator, I have effectively nullified my vote. It would have no effective value because the liberal Senator would stand against all the efforts of my conservative Representative to bring fiscal sanity to Augusta. Likewise, if I voted for a conservative for both my Legislators but decided, because, in his passion to see Maine return to prosperity and freedom, the conservative candidate for Governor spoke inappropriately, to vote for a liberal for Governor, I nullify the power of Legislators and grant a free license to liberals to continue to spend away the futures of my children.
There is a Biblical story taken from the times of the prophets and kings. The king didn’t like the old prophet because he never said anything nice. He said as much to his advisors when they urged the ruler to seek the old man’s counsel before going to war. When the prophet arrived, the king’s distaste for the prophet’s personality was validated when the old seer mocked him, calling the battle foolhardy and prophesying the king’s death. The monarch turned from the crusty old man and said to his allies, “See, I told you he never says anything nice.” Miffed by the sage’s poor choice of words, the king went to battle. Later that day, his armies routed, he lay in his chariot bleeding out his last heartbeats probably wondering why he hadn’t listened to the nasty, uncouth words of the old prophet.
Another king went to the deathbed of an old prophet begging a last word of wisdom. The dying man commanded the king to drive an arrow into the ground in succession to indicate to what extent the king’s foes should be defeated. The ruler drove the arrow in the ground three times. The prophet raged at the poor young king, mocking him as weak. The arrow should have been driven incessantly into ground until his enemies were completely dominated fumed the old seer. The young king had not seized his opportunity.
I am not a prophet and neither are the Republican candidates, but I am thankful that the voters of Maine can see, with me, that this November is a historic moment for our State. The rest of the State is waking up to what we in the north central part of Maine have been fighting against for 40 years. Now, as we near victory, we cannot draw back. We must press on. Let us, together, grab Freedom’s sword by the hilt and say to socialism, “Thus far and no further”. We will not abdicate freedom through neglect. We are aware, awake and fighting. We will not allow Liberty to fall and die for want of strengthened hands. We will not stand back idle. Let’s Set Maine Free!
THE FUNCTION OF GOVERNMENT
“Barrack Obama is no fool. He is not incompetent. To the contrary, he is brilliant.” Many of you, who are choking on the hordes of black flies you inhaled when your jaws dropped to the floor after reading my opening quote, are probably wondering if you are reading the right column. Yes, this is The Maine Conservative Voice, but you might be surprised to read that I am in complete agreement with that quote.
The author is Wayne Allyn Root. This man was a college classmate of Barrack Obama at Columbia University. I quoted from a piece he wrote and published in the Las Vegas Review Journal. The June 6, 2010 column reveals that two Columbia professors named Cloward and Piven developed the President’s governing approach. The plan is to socialize the United States by “overwhelming the system with government spending and entitlement demands”. Mr. Root contends that Barrack Obama is “purposely overwhelming the U.S. economy to create systemic failure, economic crises and social chaos”. The intent, he says, is to destroy capitalism, which will cause the country to implode. Now, for a small, cave dwelling, country bumpkin columnist, it is still hard for me to comprehend that anyone could want to see our beloved country destroyed, yet, amazingly, there are those who do.
Wayne Root goes on to show how each one of the President’s policies on their own seem disconnected from reason and almost laughable, but when they are put together they reveal the Cloward and Piven plan. As Mr. Root puts it, “Taken as a whole, it is a brilliant, Machiavellian game plan to turn the United States into a socialist/Marxist state with a permanent majority that desperately needs government for survival…and can be counted on to always vote for bigger government. Why not? They have no responsibility to pay for it.”
Last week, we talked about the audits. Legalities or illegalities aside, Independent Contractors represent one of the few remaining employers, besides government agencies, in North Central Maine. So in this present economy, it flies in the face of common sense to target and try to eliminate these employers, doesn’t it?…or…does it? In the light of Cloward and Piven, a new reality begins to dawn.
The Democrat socialist view of the world needs to have people who are subservient to its policies. Freedom loving people will not choose government domination willingly. This is why the President, our Governor and the Democrat Party have chosen and are choosing policies that deprive the people of their independence. They are systematically and deliberately herding the people into a place of complete dependence upon government, thereby, insuring complete domination by the Democrat Party.
I once read from The Daily Chesterton, “(No society can survive the socialist) fallacy that there is an absolutely unlimited number of inspired officials and an absolutely unlimited amount of money to pay them.” This one sentence sums up the socialist mindset. It is not concerned with the failure of an economy because socialism craves a crises and a populace completely dependent upon government to save it.
Last week, we saw how this President closed the legal loophole that protected Independent Contractors and has, now, targeted them for litigation. Sources within the Federal Government have told us that this initial wave of audits will be at the State level. In 2011, the Fed will come with another wave of audits targeting the contractors the State has “exposed”. This will effectively crush Independent Contractors for good, with little regard for its effect on the economy. For example, a contractor who owes the State $10,000 in fines will end up facing Federal punitive damages somewhere in the neighborhood of $80,000.
Now, I have stated before that this was just a money grab for a government that can’t pay its own bills. Perhaps, it’s more than that. Most contractors cannot sustain these fines or pay them. Is it possible that the Government knows that it will never realize financial satisfaction from these penalties? Is it possible that the Government’s goal is simply to eradicate Independent Contractors? If you look at these situations through the prism of Cloward and Piven, the answer is grim.
I believe this election will be the historic test our Founding Fathers foresaw. Will the people rise up to beat back an oppressive government? I believe we can in 2010.
”It is not the function of the government to keep the citizen from falling into error; it is the function of the citizen to keep the government from falling into error.” –Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson (1892-1954)
