After a family run business, Treworgy Orchards, placed a sign supporting traditional marriage near their place of business, gay activists began attacking them on facebook for their beliefs. The attacks were so intense that the family chose to pull down the sign. While TMCV is disappointed that Treworgy Orchards backed down from these character assassins, this should be a warning to Maine residents and businesses to what is in store for this State and its economy if we vote to redefine marriage. Any who disagree with the gay community will be politically bludgeoned until they knuckle under to the will of the minority.

Three Rails of Truth
For the Christian, the question of the debate on gay marriage is a moot point. The Bible is very clear in its condemnation of sex with those of the same gender in any capacity. While the ancient spiritual texts do not mention gay marriage in its modern definition, advocates who claim that God’s Holy Word supports the redefining of traditional marriage have to defy all laws of hermeneutics in order to substantiate their claims. Sadly, out of the 57 million evangelical Christians in the U.S., 32 million did not vote in the last election and 10 million did not even register. It would seem, in light of this stark apathy, the fault for the erosion of religious liberty in this nation lies squarely at the feet of lazy Christians.
Soon the accusation of hate is hurled against those who disagree with proponents of gay marriage. The idea that marriage is not a right but a responsibility is lost on those who are clamoring against traditional marriage. Marriage is an institution with certain guidelines and criteria that those who wish to have membership must meet. Civilizations down through the ages have established the marriage tradition as the means to channel, confine and legally bind the sexual desires of male and female into a focus upon building and providing for the next generation. An institution that has rules for membership does not indicate hate. All across the nation, girls’ softball leagues exclude boys from playing in their institutions. It’s a safe bet that the female members of these leagues hold no ill will toward the males who do not qualify.
But what of those who do not hold to the same values of faith that Christians do? What of those who have no faith at all? There are three rails of truth that the defense of traditional marriage rides upon. First is the argument of faith. It is more than the Christian faith of our nation. All civilizations have tied their marriage structure in some way to the faith systems of their people.
Secondly, there is evidence left to us from civilizations past. Every civilization that has abdicated its traditional, heterosexual marriage structure has fallen into decay and ruin. They have collapsed. Within a society, the marriage institution demands of its membership, through oaths of fidelity, that participants fulfill their sexual needs through marriage contract. They then can focus all other energies into industry and other aspects of society, which come as a direct result of a passion to provide for the family they are now bound to. As civilizations have moved away from that marriage structure, the progress of that nation has steeped in decline. This is because all that we strive for is most often rooted in a desire to provide a better future for those we love.
Thirdly, we have the evidence from here and now. Like no other civilization before us, we have access to information at an instant. We can see the repercussions of our own actions and those around us immediately. A bed and breakfast in Vermont was sued because they would not consent to performing a gay marriage and, even though offered to find the couple a Justice of the Peace to perform the marriage, the family lost their business and all their family savings. A sportscaster in Canada last his job for agreeing with a friend in support of traditional marriage. The owners of “Chic-Fil-A” were vilified in front of the whole nation because they made a statement in support of traditional marriage. Europe has outlawed the use of the words Mother and Father. California is moving to pass the same type of law. This columnist could list pages of immediate attacks against heterosexual traditions and beliefs as a direct result of these laws redefining marriage. Now, a new study shows that children in gay homes are facing much larger developmental issues then those in traditional homes.
Working in defense of traditional marriage, I have heard some say, “Oh well, our nation has to collapse sometime.” I’m sorry, but I beg to differ. Yes, we are no different than any other peoples that have walked the face of this earth. We are not immune to the failures of humanity. What makes us different, in light of all the knowledge available to us, both past and present, we the people of the United States of America are without excuse for allowing the failure of our great civilization. We must protect the Institution of Marriage. Vote “NO” on Question one. Don’t redefine marriage.
Vacationland
It’s called “Vacationland”. What many consider an advertising slogan for the State of Maine has now become a call to action for gay rights activists. Three years ago the people of Maine delivered their verdict on the issue of gay marriage. Since that vote, the gay rights movement has been working non-stop behind the scenes to circumvent the will of the people here in this State.
One of the tactics has been a project these groups have dubbed “Vacationland”. They call on out-of-State activists to come and “vacation” in Maine around the time of the election. They are instructed, behind the scenes, to take advantage of Maine’s lax voter id laws and register to vote in Maine on Election Day. This is a concerted effort to flood the electorate in our State with votes favorable to the gay rights agenda, hoping to tip the balance in their favor against the people of Maine.
One of the most destructive ideologies of the liberal progressive movement is its utter disregard and disdain for the will of the people. This political movement is predicated upon the belief that the will of government is the means to bend and break the will of the people. The majority should not rule. Those who hold the power of government should rule and enforce its agenda. In truth, this is tyranny. Those in this movement care little for democracy but rather for the implementation of their agenda. Unfortunately, many in government have chosen the progressive forms of governing rather than the representation of the people, which is their sacred oath.
Mike Michaud represents the Second District. The Second District voted overwhelmingly against the redefinition of marriage at a rate of 65-70%. This is a tally of both Democrat and Republican voters. Representative Mike Michaud has chosen to sneer, the Democrat tact as of late, at the collective will of his constituents. In essence, by showing a public preference for his own personal beliefs over the very strong personal beliefs of the majority of those he represents, Mike Michaud is arrogantly asserting that he knows better than those he serves.
The Bangor City Council took this arrogance one step further by voting to accept gay marriage. The city council has no authority on these matters. This was purely a symbolic vote in an effort to affect the outcome in November. These council members have become so impressed with their self-proclaimed importance that perhaps they feel they can intimidate the electorate into agreeing with their “statement”. This is all in an effort to create some feeling of inevitability in the vote and discourage the people, whom they serve, from voting contrary to the council’s “vaunted” opinion.
For a group of people who are not shy about promoting themselves as the intellectual elite, many politicians seem to struggle with the definition and assimilation of the word “representation” as it pertains to our representative form of government. While the out-of-state activists and our local politicians are demanding that we knuckle under to their progressive world-view, I would remind my fellow Maine residents that our common sense values are nothing to be ashamed of and we need not back away from them. It’s really not that confusing. Marriage is not a right. It is a responsibility to raise and protect the next generations of our society. It is the bedrock that has built civilization after civilization, including ours. We The People of Maine should never let politicians bully us into following their will. Vote “No” on Question 1.
His Own Rules
Mike Michaud has come out publicly in favor of gay marriage. This is stunning for a couple of reasons. First, that the mouse of the Second District would have a public statement on any issue of any significance is surprising in its own revelation. Second, that this Representative would make a stand so divergent from the views of the District he represents is downright appalling. It begs the question, does Mr. Michaud understand the premise of representative government, or, does this statement come on the not so gentle heels, literally, of his D.C. master, Nancy Pelosi?
In the last of the enumerable challenges and attacks on traditional marriage in this State, the Second District averaged between 65 to 75% against gay marriage with some precincts tallying 80% of the vote against the redefining of marriage. Mike Michaud has no respect for the wishes of his constituents but, instead, caters and cows to the demands of those who hold his political leash. His opponent, Kevin Raye, has taken his stand with traditional marriage, in keeping with the views of those he wishes to represent.
Like the rest of his Party, from the President on down through Angus King until somehow it finds the wallflower of Maine, Mike Michaud has followed the liberal mantra that the people must be accountable to the agenda rather than the agenda accountable to the people. Maine’s own shrinking violet continues to support this President whose taxpayer funded extravagant lifestyle has cost U.S. taxpayers four times what it cost the Brits to support the Royal Family. The lies and cover-up by this President and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton have caused even Democrats to call for an investigation into the criminal negligence that cost our foreign diplomats their lives.
Angus King, Lord of Stealth and Maine’s former scenic vistas, has come unhinged that there are trackers following him. But he has his own tracker that follows Charlie Summers around. Speaking of unhinged, after making a surprise visit to the Republican Headquarters in Dover-Foxcroft where he shook my hand and asked me to take the rest of the election off (that is kind of funny…take the rest of….ahem…), he was not so humorous with a young teenage girl (TMCV reports, after meeting the young lady, she is not a teenager but a lovely young lady of 23. Our mistake.)who volunteers at the Center Theatre a few store fronts down the way. When the young lady politely declined to be in the photo-op with King, Maine’s own tax subsidized monarch angrily berated her in front of all the theatre volunteers present, trying to shame her into compliance with his wishes. It’s really shameful.
And while we are on the topic of shameful, I just climbed Bigelow Mountain with my two boys. This of course was not shameful. It was a wonderful experience except for the fact that I had to explain to my sons that beyond those twirling white behemoths to the northwest of Flagstaff Lake was once a beautiful mountain range. Now, that’s shameful Mr. King. Your selfish agenda is more important than the lasting beauty of Maine. The Maine Conservative Voice supports industry and progress but not to the detriment of the grandeur of this great State. What’s Mike Michaud’s stance on that….just wondering?
But the question now is to the voters of the Second District. Will you support a Representative such as Mike Michaud who completely disallows your convictions and core beliefs with his public statements? This man will continue his flippant disregard for the residents of rural Maine unless he is punished at the voting booth. That is our job! This man has voted against funding our troops while they are in battle, in harm’s way. He has stood against job creating policies that would help mill workers of this region, and now, he has publicly renounced the belief system of the majority of the people he represents. How can we give this man our seal of approval for his poor and shoddy job performance? Some may say that he brings in financial support for memorial and local projects. My fellow residents, I question whether we should sell our votes to this man for his financial gifts, which seem to only come right before election times. And have we taken the time to realize that another legislator could bring those same grants for local projects and memorials, yet vote the right way, vote in a way that represents the core beliefs of the great people of the Second District. We can do better, much better than Mike Michaud
