His Own Rules

Mike Michaud has come out publicly in favor of gay marriage.  This is stunning for a couple of reasons.  First, that the mouse of the Second District would have a public statement on any issue of any significance is surprising in its own revelation.  Second, that this Representative would make a stand so divergent from the views of the District he represents is downright appalling.  It begs the question, does Mr. Michaud understand the premise of representative government, or, does this statement come on the not so gentle heels, literally, of his D.C. master, Nancy Pelosi?

In the last of the enumerable challenges and attacks on traditional marriage in this State, the Second District averaged between 65 to 75% against gay marriage with some precincts tallying 80% of the vote against the redefining of marriage.   Mike Michaud has no respect for the wishes of his constituents but, instead, caters and cows to the demands of those who hold his political leash.  His opponent, Kevin Raye, has taken his stand with traditional marriage, in keeping with the views of those he wishes to represent.

Like the rest of his Party, from the President on down through Angus King until somehow it finds the wallflower of Maine, Mike Michaud has followed the liberal mantra that the people must be accountable to the agenda rather than the agenda accountable to the people.  Maine’s own shrinking violet continues to support this President whose taxpayer funded extravagant lifestyle has cost U.S. taxpayers four times what it cost the Brits to support the Royal Family.  The lies and cover-up by this President and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton have caused even Democrats to call for an investigation into the criminal negligence that cost our foreign diplomats their lives.

Angus King, Lord of Stealth and Maine’s former scenic vistas, has come unhinged that there are trackers following him.  But he has his own tracker that follows Charlie Summers around.  Speaking of unhinged, after making a surprise visit to the Republican Headquarters in Dover-Foxcroft where he shook my hand and asked me to take the rest of the election off (that is kind of funny…take the rest of….ahem…), he was not so humorous with a young teenage girl (TMCV reports, after meeting the young lady, she is not a teenager but a lovely young lady of 23.  Our mistake.)who volunteers at the Center Theatre a few store fronts down the way.  When the young lady politely declined to be in the photo-op with King, Maine’s own tax subsidized monarch angrily berated her in front of all the theatre volunteers present, trying to shame her into compliance with his wishes.  It’s really shameful.

And while we are on the topic of shameful, I just climbed Bigelow Mountain with my two boys. This of course was not shameful. It was a wonderful experience except for the fact that I had to explain to my sons that beyond those twirling white behemoths to the northwest of Flagstaff Lake was once a beautiful mountain range.  Now, that’s shameful Mr. King.  Your selfish agenda is more important than the lasting beauty of Maine.  The Maine Conservative Voice supports industry and progress but not to the detriment of the grandeur of this great State.  What’s Mike Michaud’s stance on that….just wondering?

But the question now is to the voters of the Second District.  Will you support a Representative such as Mike Michaud who completely disallows your convictions and core beliefs with his public statements?  This man will continue his flippant disregard for the residents of rural Maine unless he is punished at the voting booth.  That is our job!  This man has voted against funding our troops while they are in battle, in harm’s way.  He has stood against job creating policies that would help mill workers of this region, and now, he has publicly renounced the belief system of the majority of the people he represents.  How can we give this man our seal of approval for his poor and shoddy job performance?  Some may say that he brings in financial support for memorial and local projects.  My fellow residents, I question whether we should sell our votes to this man for his financial gifts, which seem to only come right before election times.  And have we taken the time to realize that another legislator could bring those same grants for local projects and memorials, yet vote the right way, vote in a way that represents the core beliefs of the great people of the Second District.  We can do better, much better than Mike Michaud

Stealth Plus

In the past, this author has made much of the new stealth Democrat party led by Angus King.  Simply affixing the label of “Independent” over the top of the word Democrat on their banner and moving forward with the same agenda, function, and support system has been the tactic of choice for these new Maine Democrats.  This is understandable since the Democrat brand has suffered considerable damage to its image from the poor leadership it has exemplified at each level of governance in this Nation.

At the national level, the policies of Democrats have resulted in the deaths of border agents and a foreign ambassador, sent our debt spiraling out of control, crushed our economy, and made job creators the enemy of the State.  Here at the State and local levels, they have obstructed all attempts to fix a State, which had reeled for forty years under the weight of leftist big government policies.   This Democrat party is the same party, which has stolen billons from Medicare to pay for their own healthcare agenda, and then vilifies the Republicans who are now trying to save it for our seniors.  And now Angus King, monarch of all Stealth Democrats, has resorted to mocking Maine people who are concerned and frustrated that Maine’s resident wind magnate has used their tax dollars to place white, twirling, behemoth towers of government waste right in front of their lake view of Maine’s once pristine mountain landscapes.   He compares their concerns to a Godzilla B-movie in his latest TV ad.  Maine’s leader of the stealth Democrats seems to be lacking in some class, as well, but not lacking in millions of tax funded subsidies to pad his wallet.  But one member of King’s party incognito has taken stealth to a whole new level.

Mike Michaud must have found some new alien cloaking device, which he is keeping to himself, because after each November election the man simply disappears only to reappear two years later in Maine with his title of  “most irrelevant congressman” in tow.   Mr. Michaud has declared that he is willing to debate “anytime, anywhere.”

But when groups try to schedule him for debates with Senator Raye, he simply can’t be found… anytime…. or anywhere.

The National Federation of Independent Business has given him a rating of….zero.  Really….zero?  It would seem that simply inhaling oxygen and exhaling carbon dioxide in D.C could get you a higher rating than that.  The rest of his so-called Blue Dog coalition has got at least a 50% rating.  Zero…really?  Hence, the possibility of a cloaking device.  At least his carbon credits are low.

Conversely, Michaud’s opponent, Senate President Kevin Raye a small business owner himself, has been a tireless supporter of small business and is endorsed by the NFIB.  He has been an outspoken advocate for private landowner rights, speaking out against the abuses of LURC.  The Second District will be glad to know he is a defender of the Second Amendment and believes in traditional marriage.  Most importantly, Kevin Raye believes in the State of Maine, its people and its rich resources and potential.  He will not be silent in his defense of our great State while he is in Washington.   The Maine Conservative Voice believes that it is imperative we have a visible, yes, visible representation in Washington for the Second District as opposed to a man who hides in the shadows until he is prodded out to vote on the spike heel of Nancy Pelosi.  Kevin Raye is the right choice for the Second District and the State of Maine.

Mustard, Cheese and Nil, if You Will

Mustard, Cheese and Nil, If You Will

With his title of most obscure and least effective legislator firmly credentialed and framed on the wall, Mike Michaud now embarks on his latest campaign for re-election dragging Nancy Pelosi’s leash, with complimentary buzz collar, around the Second District.  Yes, Pelosi’s Puppy is back.  And he wants your vote.  Did we miss him?  We didn’t know he was gone or that he has returned, so what’s to miss?  While Maine’s own cowering canine has spent his last term curled in Nancy’s cold kennel, we’ve all been wondering what he’s been doing, or…maybe….not.  With nary a yelp from the lift-driving whelp, we’ve all probably forgotten whether he’s come or gone.  But with the election season upon us, he has been released from Pelosi’s Pound to complete the task of re-securing his comfy spot right beneath Nancy’s heel.  Let’s call it a sort of work release program.  He must perform the delicate task of campaigning in such a manner as to say nothing, do nothing and reveal nothing that could jeopardize his chance for re-election; in other words, just do what he has done all along, to which nothing is quite sure or definitive.  This has been the pattern he has employed that has sent him wagging back to that place of security, where he knows his place quiet and safe with Pelosi’s stiletto firmly implanted in his back.  Perhaps, he can scratch an itch or two if he moves discreetly and keeps the noise down.

Beneath the radar, a phrase in serious consideration for the title of Michaud’s memoir, the Representative of Maine’s Second District has managed to secure for himself an SUV at the taxpayer’s expense.  It seems a six-figure salary is not nearly enough to pay for a vehicle to drive to the kennel each day.  His dominating mistress must have assured him, to his piddling delight, that the hard working voters of Maine’s rural economies would understand his plight.  Central and Northern Maine is just inundated with persons with six figure salaries that can’t afford a car.  We understand, we empathize, little poochy; it’s a long way to Washington from the forklift.

And there’s our military.  Michaud is one of select cuddly few in Pelosi’s Pound who, despite their claims of support for the military, have voted, with an obligatory surge of electricity through their shock collars, to bury the knife of spending cuts squarely into the backs of our military.  This was easy to do for Maine’s happy hound because our soldiers had their back to the legislators, otherwise engaged and preoccupied in battle protecting the very system that, under Nancy Pelosi and with help from Mike Michaud, betrayed them while they fought for us all.

Mike Michaud recently addressed the Maine Democrat Convention.  Speaking to the throngs of….a couple…of hundred…huddled together on convention floor, Maine’s Arbitrator of Nil scratched at his collar, jingled his leash and then made a surprising attempt at comedic mastery.  He suggested that Kevin Raye, his newly minted opponent, doesn’t think Michaud “cuts the mustard”.  That’s funny because Kevin Raye owns a business that makes mustard, so he’s saying that Raye doesn’t think….he…cuts….the…ahhhhkay… moving on.  Listening to the deafening silence coming from the desk of U.S Representative Mike Michaud, it would seem that not only doesn’t he cut the mustard but he lacks the initiative to even cut the cheese, which is ironic when most liberal politicians perform this legislative act with all the regularity of a limburger factory.   It would seem that it is best for the Second District to elect someone that would actually represent the Second District.  This is not Mike Michaud.  It is time for Pelosi’s Puppy to come home to stay.

Incumbent Democratic U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud leads his Republican 2nd Congressional District opponents in fundraising by a wide margin, according to the latest campaign finance data.

Through May 23, Michaud had raised a total of $813,686 — including $95,023 from April 1 to May 23 — to Republican Kevin Raye’s $188,453 and GOP candidate Blaine Richardson’s $7,535, the candidates’ pre-primary Federal Election Commission filings state. Michaud’s numbers include a refund of about $3,500.

Michaud reported $45,273 in contributions from individuals from the period of time known as the preprimary ― April 1 to May 23 ― and $288,912 from January 2011 to May 23, his filing states.

Most of the rest of Michaud’s contributions came from a host of nonparty or political action committees, unions, associations, and corporations. Michaud garnered $49,750 in contributions from PACs from April 1 to May 23 and listed $528,250 as his total in PAC contributions since Jan. 1, 2011.

Those numbers, Raye campaign consultant Kathie Summers-Grice said, shows who Michaud really represents.

“He is real top-heavy with PAC contributions and other inside-the-beltway stuff. I think the national average is 41 percent and Mike is at something like 65 percent,” Summers-Grice said. “That shows a politician who is more in touch with inside-the-beltway politics than what’s happening in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District.”

Michaud is very much in touch with his district, said his campaign manager, Greg Olson.

“At the end of the day, this race isn’t about money. It’s about the people of the 2nd Congressional District,” Olson said. Kevin Raye’s campaign is “doing a lot of dissecting of our finances because they are not pleased with their own. He [Raye] is not keeping pace with his own fundraising from 10 years ago.”

Unions representing steelworkers, firefighters, carpenters, electricians, creditors, utility workers, painters, and municipal employees have each contributed between $4,000 and $5,000 to Michaud’s campaign, the filings state.

Unions or PACs representing teachers, beer distributors, Home Depot, emergency medical workers, and insurance agents contributed $2,500 each.

“There are a broad spectrum of people that support Mike, from working people to people who create jobs here in Maine,” Olson said.

Michaud’s largest individual contributors include Leon Gorman, the former CEO and current chairman of the board of L.L. Bean, and his wife, Lisa, who each gave a total of $5,000, and Imad Khalidi, who also contributed $5,000. Former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rosa Scarcelli contributed $3,000. Stephen King, Gary Lauder, Nancy Anderson, New Balance Athletic Shoe Chairman James S. Davis are among those who gave $2,500 each, his filing indicates.

Raye’s numbers show that the state Senate president is less successful now than when he first ran against Michaud 10 years ago, Olson said. Raye’s campaign had raised about $50,000 more at this point in 2002 than his campaign has now, Olson said.

Summers-Grice didn’t dispute that assertion. The difference between now and then, she said, is that Raye is a state senate president and not a fulltime candidate, as he was in 2002.

“Obviously Kevin has been very much a part-time candidate now,” she said. “There was a lot more focus on raising the money and campaigning full-time then.”

Raye’s listed contributions from individuals total $183,703 for the entire campaign, with $31,797 coming from April 1 to May 23. He received $4,180 from outside political committees, which can include PACs, from April 1 to May 23 and $4,750 from those sources overall.

Raye contributed $2,967 to his own campaign. Snowe For Senate contributed $2,000 and Republican Majority for Choice contributed $2,500, his filings indicate.

Raye’s campaigners are pleased with his fundraising strength so far, Summers-Grice said, adding that a disparity between challengers and incumbents is expected, with incumbents usually having a significant advantage. Michaud has raised four times as much as Raye in 18 months, while Raye has had only five months to raise funds for his run, Summers-Grice said.

Raye “is most proud of the fact that the very [highest] percentage of his donors are from Maine,” she said. “When you look at it in the context of other [2nd district] races, we are much further ahead that Jason Levesque was at this point in 2010, and Jason gave Mike a very strong run.”

Richardson’s campaign organization, Richardson for Congress 2012, and Richardson himself are his listed contributors. Of his $7,535 in contributions, $6,971 came from April 1 to May 23, according to his filing.

Raye and Richardson discussed some of their campaign goals with WLBZ-Channel 2 News Center’s Pat Callaghan during a segment taped last Wednesday.
